Regulations You Need to Know

Regulated “Medical Waste“

biohazardous-waste-disposal

Pennsylvania’s regulated medical waste monitoring requirements as per the Pennsylvania Administrative Code (§ 284.321) include:

  • Ensuring the absence of bacterial growth in the waste post-thermal processing or incineration.
  • Ensuring the inactivation of mycobacteria and certain spores to a specified degree in non-incineration disinfection processes.
  • Annual submission of microbiological and chemical analyses of processing residue or ash by operators of facilities that incinerate or thermally process medical waste.
  • Specific requirements for the use of indicators and testing methods for different types of disinfection processes.

The Code also outlines that regulated medical waste is considered infectious unless it has undergone an approved disinfection process. Operators of disinfection facilities must certify that these requirements are met, and the waste, such as ash or processing residue, must be stored and transported in accordance with specific sections of the Code. Additionally, certain restrictions apply to the use of volume reduction devices and the disposal of processing residue.

If your facility only produces “sharps”, you can rest assured that’s the majority of medical waste for facilities (~80% of our Philadelphia clients also only produce “sharps” as their medical waste.)

(1) Utilize onsite processing facilities at which at least 50% of the waste processed is generated onsite.”

Know that we offer low-cost medical waste disposal that will save you up to 83.6% versus other companies because we have no hidden fees and a guarantee that we will refrain from raising your price.

Request a free quote in 10 seconds by tapping here now.

Do you pick-up in my area?

If you’re in the greater Philadelphia area, we’ll absolutely pick-up your regulated medical waste because we service all healthcare in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and beyond!

If your facility is outside of the greater Philadelphia area, there’s a good chance we’ll pick-up your waste, but just in case you are in a rural area, please give us a call at 1 (713) 357-6299 now, and within 10 seconds, we will let you know if we have trucks coming to your area. If we don’t have trucks coming to your area, we’ll offer you another solution to get biohazardous medical waste in Philadelphia picked up.

Are there any additional fees?

Unfortunately in our industry, many companies’ quotes look low-cost, but unscrupulously, they have sneaked in hidden fees and/or have hidden ways to administer “price increases” (“PIs”) in their contracts for as much as 18% twice per year! (That would double your cost every ~4 years!)

We run an honest, fair, and ethical business, so we have no hidden fees and we guarantee we will refrain from raising our price. Period.

What is the best method to dispose hospital waste?

The best method to dispose of hospital waste involves segregation at the source, followed by appropriate treatment. Infectious and hazardous wastes require high-temperature incineration or autoclaving. Non-hazardous wastes, like general waste, can be disposed of like regular trash but with careful segregation.

How do I dispose of needles in Philadelphia?

In Philadelphia, needles should be disposed of in FDA-approved sharps disposal containers. Once the container is full, it can be taken to designated drop-off locations such as pharmacies, hospitals, or health departments. Do not dispose of needles in regular trash or recycling bins.

Where would you dispose of clinical waste?

Clinical waste should be disposed of by segregation at the point of generation, using clearly labeled and color-coded bins. It is then collected by a licensed medical waste disposal company, which treats it through methods like autoclaving, incineration, or chemical disinfection, depending on the waste type.

How do you dispose of biomedical waste?

Biomedical waste disposal requires segregation, containment, and treatment. Segregate at the source into appropriate containers, then treat by methods like autoclaving, chemical disinfection, or incineration. It’s crucial to follow local regulations and use a licensed biomedical waste disposal service to ensure safety and compliance.
